A post completely inspired by
This, That, and Chit Chat
Year of the __________ will be something sweet - 85%
We will make it through another full year - 95%
This year we will sign a deal with Spotify - 5%
We will get to 100 subscribers - 12%
We feature more guests - 99%
I started with this because I think it’s the thing most people want to know about. I put 95% because I’m leaving room here for Emily to decide she doesn’t want to do it anymore, but so far I think we’re both loving this endeavor. It’s certainly the first sustained creative endeavor I’ve been a part of, and I think the same is true for Emily and what a blast. Thank you for your continued support. We’re trying to improve so let us know what you’d like to see in the coming year.
Personal
I will get married - 100%
I will sit on a beach in Mexico with my new wife - 99%
I will write more than one blog post - 99%
I will consistently write a weekly post - .0000000000001%
I will stay at my same job - 90%
I will go to Utah 6 times - 50%
If you didn’t know, I’m engaged. And not to Emily. I know many of you are disappointed, but you’ll be happy to know that my fiancé, Lauren, is hysterical and beautiful and kind and… well she’s great and we’re very excited to be wed. (Does anyone know the difference between fiancé and fiancée?) Which is part of the reason the podcast has been so spotty the past sixish months. I’ve been a little distracted… But beyond that, I’m very happy at my job and don’t want a change. I currently have four trips to Utah planned, but you know me, love going back.
Political
The government will shut down - 85%
A bipartisan, non-essential bill will get through congress - 15%
Trump will be charged with something at the federal level - 12%
Trump will be charged with something in Georgia - 43%
McCarthy will serve the whole year as speaker - 91%
The country will continue to swing towards the center - 55%
Biden will announce his candidacy - 85%
Biden will run basically unopposed (no major opposition) - 80%
Desantis will announce his candidacy - 90%
Not a super fun year for politics. Narrowly divided government, which you would think would lead to compromise bills, but likely won’t. Not many elections to speak of, certainly none that are important. So, I think these predictions really speak for themselves.
Culture
Award shows will continue to be poorly produced - 90%
The Bachelor will continue to be garbage, like genuinely not worth watching - 99%
I will continue to watch it - 100%
This will be the best year for movies since 2019 - 90%
Twitter will be fine, if not slightly improved - 80%
Netflix will continue to make bad strategic decisions, produce terrible movies, and yet still dominate streaming because people (myself included) like their TV shows - 95%
Award shows have been going downhill for a long time. I’m not just talking in terms of dumb, political speeches either. It seems like the producers don’t really know who their audience is or how to appeal to them. It’s as if they weren’t a part of an industry that attracted billions upon billions of dollars a year. The Bachelor feels the same way, it’s not even like good garbage, it’s bad, stinky garbage. It’s become a way for people to become famous and that’s all it is. Last season, ABC (the multibillion-dollar corporation owned by Disney) spent an entire episode trashing one of the contestants. With regards to the best year for movies: John Wick 4, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. I think Netflix speaks for itself, but I have so many thoughts about what they’re doing wrong.
Thanks for reading. I’d be happy to predict anything dropped in the comments.
